Pied Wheatear in Yorkshire

Found at Reighton Sands caravan park on Saturday, this Pied Wheatear increases the tally of high quality eastern birds found in the last couple of weeks on the east coast of Britain. Early November has been a just reward to those dedicated east coast patch workers who slogged it out through what was, by and large, a truly shocking October! Photo by Glyn Sellors.

A first-winter American Golden Plover on St.mary's airfield:

The 'controversial' shrike, rumoured by some to be Brown Shrike but with a range of features that fit well within the boundaries of what would be expected from a normal Red-backed Shrike:

Perhaps the biggest surprise, a juvenile male Snowy Owl that arrived on Gugh before moving onto St. Mary's and then onto St. Martin's:

East coast migrants

With an easterly airflow blowing across the UK, the east coast has seen an arrival of winter migrants and scarce vagrants from the east. These have included Red-breasted Flycatchers (1st winter at Flamborough, E. Yorks):
