Drift migrants
A recent easterly airflow from Scandinavia across to the east coast provided ideal conditions for a large fall, with big numbers of Wyrnecks (below, St Agnes, Isles of Scilly by Stephen Menzie) being particularly evident across the country.

Smaller numbers of Red-backed Shrikes were also seen, including this juvenile bird at Landguard, Suffolk (pictures by Stephen Rutt).

On the south coast, an adult Tawny Pipit remained in residence at Barleycrates Lane, Portland (Picture by Stephen Menzie).

Audouin's Gull in Lincolnshire
Despite being very mobile, moving several miles up and down the coast around Chapel Point, this 3rd summer (moulting to 4th winter) Audouin's Gull did occasionally settle long enough for birders to catch up with it and for some to obtain excellent photographs as it rested on the beach before another feeding foray out to sea.
